Rhédey Garden

As I’m from Oradea, it was quite difficult to choose one particular place because I could probably tell a story about every single street, but since I had to choose, the places where I spent a lot of time as a child come to mind first. The Rhédey Garden is one such place, especially with its old stage on one end. You might want to know that on the other end of the garden there is a playground. You might ask why a child would go in the opposite direction, to this old, abandoned stage. Well, that is exactly why; because it’s abandoned. At the remote end of the park children used to run and laugh, but there was always silence here. An introverted child, who cannot even speak in front of others, would obviously choose this quiet place. Looking back, it is clearer now why I was so obsessed with it. I always loved to sing and dance, but I could never imagine to perform in front of people. Here, however, I could pretend to be a singer or dancer, as long as there wasn’t a soul around. It was the best playground in the world.

Oradea is constantly changing. They always add something to the city, or even take something away from it. However, this place is still the same, just like when I was a kid. It’s still the same feeling whenever I take a walk there, and this is something that I cannot say about many other places anymore. So, if you are walking in the centre of Oradea, just visit the Rhédey Garden and stop for a moment at this old, lonely stage, where even time seems to have stopped.
