The Department of Languages and Literatures of Partium Christian University is a dynamic, energetic higher education unit of youthful and yet professionally well-prepared staff. Training ranges are constantly adapted to the actual requirements of the labour market. Training is provided by outstanding domestic and foreign professionals. Student’s professional development is also encouraged via international scholarships and exchange programmes (Erasmus+, DAAD etc).
The department includes four groups, as follows:
- English Language and Literature Group
- Hungarian Language and Literature Group
- Modern Languages Group
- German Language and Literature Group
In harmony with the Bologna Process, the Department of Languages and Literatures provides training in English, Hungarian or German for students of humanities on the bachelor's level (BA, 6 semesters) and the master’s level (MA, 4 semesters).
Students enrolled in BA courses might independently design their optional curriculum from the third semester selecting from subjects related to literature, culture, linguistics, media and communication; at the same time, they get acquainted with various translation techniques, gain skills in simultaneous interpretation and business communication.
The master’s degree under the theme of Multilingualism and Multiculturalism offers students the possibility to enlarge their knowledge in literature and linguistics, as well as, besides gaining further skills in translation and interpretation, they receive insights into various European cultures and learn about intercultural communication. As an additional training opportunity, the pedagogical module may be taken to obtain English, German or Hungarian teaching qualifications.
In addition, our Department of Languages and Literatures provides education on History of Hungarians to all students at Partium Christian University a subject of identity preservation and development.
With respect to talent development, students enrolled in the Janus Pannonius College of Excellence can deepen their knowledge of specific topics under the guidance of their mentoring professors.
Through expanding domestic and international contacts, students are encouraged to take an active role in the life of the department: they have the opportunity to apply for group research and foreign sub-programmes, to learn about different European cultures through exchanges and conferences – so that they become open-minded and dedicated intellectuals.
