Mushroom Viewpoint

The Mushroom viewpoint is one of the most important attractions of Oradea because when you look down from the mountain, the whole city lies at your feet. At night, the lights of the city provide a beautiful view, and during the day you can stop by the Mushroom Restaurant for a beer, lunch, or maybe both. In addition to the fact that a very great dining room awaits you on the hilltop, the place was once completely different: a chapel stood on the site of the current restaurant, built by György Barthel between 1839 and 1840, more than 180 years ago. After the years of the cult of St. Ladislaus, more precisely in 1955, the chapel and its surrounding buildings were demolished and became a place for entertainment. Many did not come to terms with this change that pained their souls; they lost an iconic place that deserved a worthy edifice. As a result of this, some did not even approach the hilltop for several years. A lot of people don’t know about the history of the hilltop, and the past of the symbolic place is very rare in public discourse. The viewpoint and the restaurant are situated just northeast of the Ion C. Brătianu Park. I don’t own a vehicle of any kind, but I still severely underestimated the length of the road when I visited it for the first time. The road which leads from the bottom to the top of the hill is approximately 700-800 metres long. In spite of this, I would highly recommend taking the time and effort, because it’s not every day you get to see this kind of view. It really is a place that makes you want to visit again and again. You can find a fairly ingenious menu in the restaurant, starting from pizzas and salads all the way to cocktails and liquors. If you’re curious about the best viewpoint in Oradea, or you fancy a bit of hiking, then this place is for you! You can roam free on the hillside, take a nap on the grass fields, and take pictures of the view with your friends and family, all the while you have the opportunity to dine in one of the finest restaurants in town, in which you can even have a smoke on its closed terrace, this way no one feels left out!
